Ode to the Guber
We got to go to the lake to visit with Grandpa and Grandma Campbell this past weekend. Before we left, we got some sad news. One of our favorite lake-trip-detours is closing in September. The Wheel Inn is an old fashioned drive in restaurant in Sedalia, Missouri. It is about half way down and while Christopher had probably been there before, I discovered it while pregnant with Noah. (We usually had to stop for a snack.) Not only do they have the best fresh-squeezed lemonade, they also advertise themselves as 'Home of the Guberburger'. So what is that, you ask? Well, it's a hamburger with peanut butter on it. Now, stop your gagging. No fair judging until you have tried it. We were, of course, hesitant at first - especially since it is served as a regular burger with mayo, lettuce, tomato - but we were quick fans and looked forward to planning our trips to the lake around meal times so we would have an excuse to stop. (We were not able to convince the grandparents that it was worth stopping for, however.) But some wise people have decided the restaurant must now to torn down to widen the street because semi trucks have trouble making the corner. (Do not even get me started on how I feel about that.) We had dreamed of making it a tradition with our children to stop for guberburgers and since this was our only chance, we had to take advantage of it. Thankfully, Noah had previously started eating hamburgers. So here is our documentation just in case he wants to deny having tried one.
Thanks for the memories, Wheel Inn - we will miss you! Oh, and if you are ever at our house for a cook out? Don't look under the bun, just enjoy!
