Let me off this ride

This has been another long day for Zeke. He should have just told mommy that daddy is not qualified to take care of him. So after a good start on his recovery he decided that he ought to throw up all of the food that he ate. The rest of the evening he was only able to walk a few feet before stopping to rest. He seemed a bit wobbly too. As bedtime came around I thought maybe he needed to have another dose of insulin since his blood sugar had been off the chart earlier in the day. Zeke wasn't interested in the can or dry food so we had a picnic with his favorite Pounce treats. After having a handful I gave him another dose of insulin. I didn't feel good about things as I turned the lights out but I was hoping he be doing better as his blood sugar came down.

At 6am I went down to the basement dreading what I might find. It was almost as bad as I feared. It looked as if he had fallen off the box he liked to sleep on. He had been unable to move himself from where he had landed. At this point he couldn't do anything but breathe. Stephanie held on to him for about half an hour while we waited for the vet to open. Every now and then he would moan and stretch. It didn't look good at all.

I took him to the vet's office half an hour before they opened. The doctor wasn't due for a few hours so we tried her on the phone. After getting some fluids in him they tested his blood sugar. It was 25. The doctor gave him some glucose and pretty quickly he started looking better. He could pick his head up and flip his tail. The rest of the day they monitored his blood sugar and provided fluids. His blood sugar has swung between extremes through the rest of the day.

At the end of the work day the vet recommended that we transfer him to an emergency hospital so that they could continue to monitor his blood sugar. So as of 7:30pm we have left our poor kitty to spend the night at a hospital. Good news came at 10:30pm when we heard that he had been eating some and that his blood sugar appeared normal. Now we wait and see how stable he is. There is still some concern that he might have some other organ failure, mainly kidney, that may have developed.

Let's hope that he has a better night tonight. We need our kitty back.
