A Better Day

Things have been a little rough around here - well, for the adults anyway... Thank goodness kiddos are so resilient! After losing Cal last week, we noticed that our other cat, Zeke, wasn't doing well either. He hasn't been eating. This started before Cal got really bad so we were not sure if he was missing his buddy or if a bad bag of food was to blame. I tried a new bag of food, a new brand of food, some canned food, and nothing was interesting him. His not eating is of greater concern than just not eating because he is diabetic. For almost three years now we have been giving him insulin shots twice a day, however, in order to get his shot, he has to eat. The vet gave us an appetite stimulant for him yesterday. Have you ever attempted to give a cat a pill? Good times. Good times. We thought we succeeded but as of this morning, he still was not eating so in to the vet he went. She ran some blood work (which we still haven't heard back on) and checked him over. She thought he looked alright other than his blood sugar was very high. They force-fed him some canned cat food with a syringe so I was able to give him some insulin for the first time in three days. She pointed out that human diabetics will tell you that if their sugar gets off they just feel crummy, so maybe that was his issue too? When I went down to check on him at dinner time he had actually eaten half of what was in his bowl. Hooray!! He has since "tossed" it all back out on the floor but I am hoping that is just from not having food in his tummy for three days. We are really, really hoping he is improving. Two kitties in one week would be a little more than we could handle...

Diabetes can do strange things when it gets too high or too low. He's been doing so well because you have been very diligent in his treatment. He's had the best care.
