Snow Day - Take 2

How is it the only thing the children ever actually WANT to do is watch TV? I try to limit them to 30 minutes or less and it is a constant battle - especially on a day like this when it would be so easy to just put in movie and after movie and just let them veg. But, we are trying... (Anybody have any super fun games that involve laundry? NOT a race, mind you. That causes more headaches in this house than it is worth...) The boys got microphones for Christmas and I am trying to give some boy-band lessons. Noah assured me that they could only do it if they "dressed Goth and put on lipstick." I asked him what 'Goth' was and he said it is like girls only for boys. I told them once they learned their song and dance we could get out the lipstick. (Maybe if I send the pictures, daddy will get concerned and come join the party...) So they went to the kitchen and worked for about 35 seconds and came back in with this. Mom had to give a little instruction on getting along and taking turns. Again.
Mom is getting reprimanded for not cheering. I think we got it all together, now.
Guess I'll have to get some Osmond movies from the library so they can see what I am aiming for here...
As you can see, they changed their minds about the costumes. Noah didn't like my offer to wear some of Abby's new princess clothes - they are supposed to be black, white, and red. Only the hair and lips look like girls. And as we were on our way upstairs for the lipstick he asked how he'd get it off. I told him it would wear off and he decided against it. Too bad. Maybe my next sewing project will be some matching sequined suits.

Too bad I don't have some of Uncle Joel's fabric left from his rock n roll days....That stuff was WILD!!! Loved the way the announcing was resolved....one announce the Ladies and Gentlemen and the other Boys and Girls. Good job, MOM.

We just started making "macaroni art". Just give them some macaroni, a glue stick and paper. But it only lasts for about 30 minutes.

I have found that if I can push through the whining for about 30 minutes, eventually they just start playing with whatever. I think it's OK to let them get bored and figure out how to entertain themselves. I also make them go outside and play for an hour even though they spend 20 minutes trying to talk to me through the door. But you can't really do that when it's so cold!

That said, there are just those days when there is only so much you can do inside. We definitely watch more TV in the summer (when we can't go outside as much) than we do in the winter!
