I {heart} Technology!

I love watching my children talk to their 95 yr-old great-grandfather on the computer!
I love that even Abby knows his name and she has only seen him in person a handful of times. We did this while he was visiting my parents. He doesn't have a computer of his own, although, he did ask my parents if they thought he should get one. "What is all this "dot com" business I hear about all the time?" He wondered if he was missing out on something. I think the brother's (my dad's brothers, that is) are not necessarily pushing this idea as there are still some misunderstandings with things like the cell phone, and how to use it. I will say, though, he does have an email-only machine that hooks up to his phone line and he uses that daily. I think that is pretty cool. Way to go, Grandpa!
Sometimes I think about what people from different eras would think if they were to come back to the present and see all that has changed. While there are many things I think they would be disappointed in (and I can't say as I'd blame them), I think this is one invention they'd be ok with. My mom has friends that live in Australia. Their son lives in Japan and is expecting a child in February. The son has Skype hooked up on their televisions so they can visit regularly and when the baby is born, he too will get to know his grandparents who live a whole continent away. I just love that. So, to whoever invented this - thank you. Thank you from all the grandkids who had special relationships with their grandparents and want the same for their children - no matter how far away they live.
