While I haven't had the chance to talk about it, we did make our frequent trips to the Farmer this summer. I even remembered - at the last minute - to go on opening day.
It was not as cold as last year BUT still pretty chilly. I was really afraid we were in for a looooooooooooong summer as this was Abby's response.
Luckily, that was not the case. By the end of the summer she was enjoying her animal visits. (Wait until she finds out how much fun it is when she is walking!!) The boys, of course, loved their visits.
While they still loved the big goats, (and Benjamin started every visit by hugging hello to each animal)

this year there was a switch in preference to the baby goats they could bottle feed.

The tractor races were also very popular and by the end of the summer even Benjamin was able to ride by himself (which our backs greatly appreciated). This year we also spent a lot of time fishing - when daddy came along, that is.
I just can't say how lucky we are to have to the farmer at our disposal. And for free? There was an article in the newspaper that said the farm was on par to have as many visitors as the Kansas City Zoo. Unfortunately, they don't think the farm is big enough to handle that kind of crowd so they are considering imposing a fee for people who do not live in Overland Park. While I should be happy that they are trying to be considerate of my children, I feel badly about what this might mean for the inner city kids that used to come here on their school trips. If the fee does get imposed, I am seriously considering seeing if there is a way to sponsor a class trip. We just love the farmer so much and I really think every child should get to enjoy it. I'll keep you posted...
