The Rest of the Story

Yes, I know it is December. However, I promised the rest of our Halloween tales, and never delivered. So I am going to do it now. Better late than never, right? Right. The church where Noah attends preschool had Trunk-or-Treat. It was a particularly cold evening, so we were happy to have a fun indoor activity. The boys loved getting all the goodies and Benjamin quickly learned how to pick out the best treats. "Popsicle, daddy." He ended up with a whole pumpkin full of lollipops. Some of Noah's classmates were there, so he did dancing with them while Benjamin tried out all the arts and crafts tables.Noah's play group had their 4th annual Halloween party. Benjamin was sick and stayed home with Grandma Bonnie, but everyone else had a good time. And we got supplies to make some bats. Benjamin didn't want to trace his hands so he did coloring and his bat has daddy-sized hands. They still turned out pretty cute, though. It was our first attempt at a family craft night. I do not think daddy and I will be applying for preschool teacher positions anytime soon. (Check out the look on daddys' face. Hehehe...) Next it was time for pumpkin carving. Noah talked about this for weeks as they had pumpkins out at the grocery store way early. We convinced him we had to wait until the last minute so the jack-o-lantern would survive until Halloween. He and daddy scoured the internet looking at faces and picking out just the right one. I am sorry to report his first carving experience was not a pleasant one. Can't wait to see if he begs us to do it again next year. Benjamin did actually stick his hand in one time but mostly it was dad's job to clean out the pumpkin. Noah eventually excused himself from the general vacinity after telling us that it "smells like dirty diapers inside there". And just to emphasize how much fun he had, here is a video. Unfortunately, I missed his gagging and after throwing up. (Be sure to listen for Benjamin at the end. He really wanted us to ask, "How are you doing, Benjin?") Luckily I had a plan B. Target sold Mr. Potato Head pieces for decorating pumpkins. I originally picked it up because it was a pirate, not really thinking about how he would react to the carving. This was much more Noah's style but he still wasn't excited about the fact that the pumpkin leaked "stinky juice" every time we poked it. (Are you starting to get a sense of the fact that we had a busy Halloween? We're getting close to the end, don't worry.) Noah got to have a parade at school and we got to stay and watch. Only one kid out of the 10 actually marched in the parade. Want to guess who that was? He was so proud to be in his costume. And it was so fun to see him 'on stage', if you will. After marching around, the class stopped and performed some songs for us. It was very cute. Finally, Halloween Day actually arrived. Being a Friday, Benjamin had music class. Because it was one of daddy's Fridays off, we decided to take the whole family in costume. Noah did surprisingly well at participating in class (something he never did when he was actually the one in class) and Benjamin liked having his big brother there. We did not manage a class picture this year, but here is the world's greatest music teacher, Miss Trilla.Next it was on to Toys R Us for their Halloween party. This event included another parade which brought about more confusion as to why no one marched in the parade. Poor kid. He sure made other peoples' day with it, though. The postcard said it was for kids 3 and up, so Benjamin stayed in the stroller, which was fine. Noah scored enough loot for both of them. And Benjamin would have never agreed to this...And that, my friends, sums up Halloween. Good thing we have another 10.5 months to prepare for next year!

OMG it looks like you guys had an amazing Halloween. I laughed so hard I cried at Noah and the pumpkin. But he's definitely like your family with the "stage" isn't he? :)

Bless Noah's little heart...he looks so pitiful in the video that his parents would would expect him to TOUCH the insides of the pumpkin! Then to hear Benjamin with his favorite phrase, "How you doing....?" is a real plus. Cracks us up and makes us laugh!
