We didn't have to think too hard to decide what kind of party Benjamin might like to have. Winnie the Pooh is a clear favorite, so Pooh it was. He has been talking for months now about his 'Pooh party'. Saturday was the big day and with the help of his neighbors and his good friend Eric, we celebrated.

Benjamin's Party
What a busy weekend! Festivities started on Wednesday when Grandma Bonnie and Uncle Scott arrived. The boys just love having them over (as does their mommy). It is really cute to watch them now because they want to show them everything new since their last visit and it takes all of about 35 seconds. (I remember doing that with my grandparents, do you?) Noah even managed to point out our "crooked tree". Thank you, Noah. Grandma was here in time to help with the birthday cake - thank goodness. The job is just easier with help, you know? And, as luck would have it, Benjamin was also around to 'help'.
Mostly he just helped clean up all the leftover frosting. My neighbor taught me how to do a frozen frosting transfer for the picture. It was pretty easy and turned out really cute once I got it into a freezer that actually froze.
(While we managed to not get any pictures of them, Benjamin's grandparents and Uncle Scott were also here and he was very excited about that.) Benjamin picked the menu - pizza, grapes, pretzels, and chocolate milk.
Needless to say, the menu was a hit. Next we played some of Benjamin's favorite games. Ring around the Rosie
and a parade (with the help of 'Stars and Stripes').
I'm pretty sure this parade would still be going on had we not put a stop to it. There was some play time in the boys' room. The neighbors had a great time in the spaceship.
(I am curious to see if our own boys are more willing to play in there now that they have seen it in use.) Next it was presents galore.
Either everyone knows Benjamin very well or he is a very typical two-year-old as he got all favorites. Books, 'coloring', cars, puzzles, and monsters. He was actually ready to stop after each opening to play with whatever was in the package and had to be strongly encouraged to open the next gift. He has put much use in to each gift already and they boys are actually sharing quite well which we are all excited about. After gifts it was time for cake.
Now, the kids can't read so I was not surprised by them but not one single adult asked what the cake said. Is everyone a Pooh expert or were they all too kind to point out what they thought was an obvious mistake? We will never know, I guess. (In case you are wondering, this comes from the story of Eeyore's birthday. Owl writes a birthday message to Eeyore for Pooh and he is not so good at spelling. The story happens to be one of the boys' favorites.) Noah even stuck to his word and let Benjamin blow out his candle. While Benjamin is smiling more oft than not, it was pretty clear that he was having a wonderful time. We were very thankful to have such a fun party to help celebrate Benjamin's big day.
After a brief nap it was time to break in the presents. Reading with Teddy Ruxpin.
(Yes, that's the same Teddy Ruxpin you remember.) Coloring at his new easel.

So many new toys, so little time, hunh? And then for his actual birthday on Sunday, Noah helped make Benjamin a German pancake.
(If you've never had one, I recommend it. Not only are they fun to look at, they are also yummy. Thanks to the Gabels for the recipe!)
And you can almost see that we remembered to let him use his special birthday plate. We've had 5 total birthdays with our children now and remembered to use the birthday plate once. Luckily, we will have lots of opportunities to get in the habit. Throw in the Christmas concert at church on Saturday night and Noah getting to go to 'Oklahoma' with his grandparents and that sums up the weekend. Now why are we so tired???
