I realize I still have Thanksgiving to get to, but this one is here now. On Friday, we went to see Santa. If you have been following us closely over the years, you would know that Noah's track record with Santa has not been a good one. But it would seem that is all behind us now. Noah could not wait to finally get to see the man in red and tell him he wants a black Spiderman costume. (Are you listening, Santa?) SIDE NOTE: I bought the boys this Advent calendar.

(Tell me this is not the coolest thing and that no two boys were ever more perfect for such a theme.) I realize that the calendar itself has nothing to do with the reason of Christmas and I feel a little funny about that. And yet, when I look around, I don't see many that do. However, we talk each morning about how we are getting one day closer to Jesus' birthday and they can repeat that, whether or not they understand what we are talking about. But back to Santa, we were all ready to pile in the car and Noah was in the kitchen. I came up to see what he was doing and he had his chair pushed over to the display and was loading his pockets with all of the pirate goodies. I said, "Noah, what are you doing, hon?" He said, "Well, mom, I have to take these toys to show Santa!" as if it was the silliest question I had ever asked. His dad finally convinced him that Santa had already seen the toys as they most likely came from his toy shoppe. "Of course!" he said and we were underway. We got in to the mall and could barely keep up with the kid. "This way, mom? Is he over here?" Then we saw him. They had all these ropes around his area and a nice little pathway to follow to get to the chair but our crafty three-year-old dodged all that and went running straight for him. Luckily we were the only people there, so it was no big deal. We drove the stroller around the correct way and when we got around front, there was Noah sitting right on Santa's lap just a-chatting away. Unfortunately, our camera chose this particular moment to be out of batteries YET AGAIN! I did have extras but the moment did not last long enough for me to get them changed. So, I will just have to keep the image in my mind. We had actually seen Santa the week before at Walmart and Benjamin told us he did not want to go talk to him. "He's scary." So, we weren't sure what to expect. But when we told him he could stand right next to Noah, he seemed just fine with that. Luckily, Abby didn't know what was going on, so we were good there. And this was our final product:

Not bad, hunh? Anyone want to place bets on how long it will be before we have everyone looking in one direction for a picture? (And what is up with Santa not even looking at the camera!?!?! Isn't that his job at these shindigs?) And, yes, Benjamin is wearing Elmo slippers. He attached himself to them eariler in the day and was not willing to give them up for anything. At least they were red. I guess they have replaced the red crocs...
Another cute Noah story just for fun: They had a 'Birthday Party for Jesus' at Sunday school this week and the kids were to bring an unwrapped gift (that went to Toys for Tots). I took Noah to Walmart on Saturday to help pick out his gift. He talked the whole way there about what would be best for Jesus. As we were getting out of the car, he had it narrowed down to a baby toy so Baby Jesus could play with it right away. But when we got back to the toys, he changed his mind and ended up with a Batman action figure that came with some kind of chainsaw tool. The back of the package showed how to put the tool together and Noah studied it the whole way home. He told me, "Mary is going to put this here and put that on there so Jesus can play with it. He's just little, so he won't know how to do it himself." How sweet is that? And when we went to church the next morning he kept asking, "Do you think Jesus is going to be there today?" I thought I had it dodged when I said, "Well, no, probably not. Christmas celebrates with birth, remember? So he hasn't been born yet." Then he asked, "So will Mary and Joseph be there, then? With the wisemen and shepherds?" He did not seem too disappointed after ward, so it must have all worked out okay. He did say they had the puppets out so maybe that satisfied his attendance requirements.
