A Memorial Day to remember

Probably not what the holiday planners had in mind, but it worked for us! Somehow, we were able to convince our favorite parents and favorite eldest brother to give up their weekend to help us with a much needed home project - THE BASEMENT. Yes, we have only lived here for 7 years, but our basement probably resembled that of families who have lived in their houses for 30+ years (and never bothered to organize anything). So bright and early Saturday morning we shipped the boys, grandmas, and uncles to the Campbells' and the rest of us started moving 'stuff' to its temporary location in the garage. (I would have taken a picture of that also but as my mom pointed out, there was not room for eyes in the loaded-up garage.) Once emptied, we scrubbed the floor and walls with bleach water to remove 7 years of dirt and mildew. We let that dry overnight and started the real fun on Sunday - reloading the basement. We were much more systematical this time, however, and I think we will be very grateful for that in the years to come. Items are organized, boxes are labeled - it is a beautiful thing. We worked until we could not keep our eyes open any longer on Monday and we are still not done but we certainly have the end in sight. Many, many thanks to our unpaid help - we could not have done this project without you. The next time you are over, ask me for something we keep in the basement. It will be my pleasure to run down and grab it for you in seconds flat.

Looks like we weren't the only ones re-decorating over the weekend! Pretty!
