Winter Olympics 2010

WARNING: THIS POST WAS WRITTEN IN REALTIME. TRYING SOMETHING A LITTLE DIFFERENT. IT MY BE A LITTLE CONFUSING SINCE YOU CAN'T SEE WHAT I AM AS I TYPE. GOOD LUCK KEEPING UP!!
Are you watching the Opening Ceremonies? We are. Well, we are trying. There is a lot of crazy running and jumping going on, but we are trying to watch best we can over the heads of the rugrats. In case you are NOT watching, here is what you are missing: the boys LOVED the Indians - all the colorful costumes and dancing. They also played a large 'gathering drum' which the boys have been learning about in their music class. Right now we are watching the Parade of Nations. Christopher wants a pair of Azerbaijan pants. Should you see any, please pick them up for us. My favorite so far has been Iran. The girl carrying the flag is the first Iranian woman to compete in the winter Olympics. Isn't that cool? You could see the pride on her face. That is my favorite part about the games. Norway is the all-time leading medal winner in the Winter Olympics. Did you know that? I didn't. Right now I am amazed at the size of these teams. Compared to the summer games, they are tiny! A lot of 1's, 3's, 7's. So far, Germany has the most with about 150. Waiting to see the US and Canada - they usally manage to overdo it. We are down to just one child remaining at the watch party. Noah has been learning about the games in school so we thought we would let him watch the torch lighting. (He hopes it looks just like the one he colored today. Orange and blue. It could happen, right?) Although, he just said he quits because there are no althletes from a Q-country. He's pretty particular when it comes to things like that. Proctor & Gamble, Proud Sponsor of Moms. Did you see that commercial? Easily outdid any Super Bowl commercial. Switzerland has 146. US - 216. Norway only has 99 - we better get more medals with all that manpower... Canada only has 206. Man, we are totally going to take them. Noah's mouth hasn't stopped moving for the last 5 minutes. He is also spinning in a circle. Remember in cartoons how they move so fast they drill a hole in the floor? I sort of think he could do that. He's been up since 7:00AM, spent 5.5 hours at school had no nap, and is still going strong. Perhaps there were too many chocolate chips in our pancakes. Pancakes, you ask? How does that fit in to my "Olympic themed meal" tradition? Well, pancakes (with Maple Syrup) and bacon was the best Canadian meal we could come up with. Hey, everyone liked it. (Again, I am sure the chocolate chips I added to the pancakes had nothing to do with it.) Totally cool whales swimming under the stage. The effects they use during these shows are so cool. I would really, really like to attend an opening ceremony some day. I'm free in two years if anyone wants to take me to London. It is a country I really want to visit - and never have. Ok, my son is amazing. Sarah McLachlan sang about two notes of her song and Noah said, "Hey! This is like the end of Wilbur." Translation: she is singing the song they play when the credits role at the end of "Charlotte's Web". He claims he always knew this was an Olyimpic song.... (PS. Don't tell the 80's, but Sarah McLachlan might be a better songwriter than Bryan Adams - who also sang a song just a few minutes ago.) 10:07. Noah is now flat out on the floor. Mouth still going but limbs have definitely stopped moving. How much longer will he last? Will he even got to see the torch? 10:17. The mouth has stopped moving. And now we have to listen to the president of the IOC? Yeah, he is not going to make it... 10:57. Wayne Gretzky holding the torch. Noah ----> No torch holding going on here. 11:17. Outdoor torch now lit and it's time to carry my wee one off to bed. Hope you all enjoyed the ceremony! USA! USA! USA!
