Oh, Christmas Tree!

The Saturday after Thanksgiving found us all bundled up and out to search for the perfect tree. One of the parents in this house (who shall remain nameless) believes that all good trees have to be handpicked and cut at a tree farm. She has worked hard to convince her partner of this idea as well. Unfortunately, Kansas farms don't grow them like Michigan farms do. We have even been known to look over every single tree growing and then pick one that was shipped in from Michigan. But, we found a new farm this year and we had high hopes. Daddy especially wanted to find a farm with some activities for our little elves so he picked one with a train. It was a balmy 30 degrees and spitting snow. We popped in John Denver & the Muppets and were on our way. As we approached, the farm seemed quite promising. We spent an hour wondering around looking at the trees and finally agreed on the perfect white pine. Noah and daddy cut it down and dragged it back to the farmhouse. We got it loaded on to the car while Noah took a spin in the train. (Mommy thought Benjamin should stay where he was to try to keep him warm. We got the tree put up that very evening, although it took us almost a week to get the lights and ornaments on it. Noah was very patient but insistent. He'd wake up each morning and ask about the lights. "Or are they probably still in the basement?" Now that the tree is decorated, he sees to it that it is plugged in whenever we are home. He loves to talk about it being Christmastime. He was even kind enough to pose for a picture. Unfortunately, more fun than posing is tipping over, so you gotta be quick. But I think you get the idea. And even a Merry Christmas hug. Auuuhhhh....PS. So the tree farm got a big thumbs up from all involved in the hunt this year. Unfortunately, daddy had a talk with the owners and found out that they are getting out of the business. They will not be planting any new trees so once the current crop is gone, they are closing their doors. Back to the ol' drawing board for next year!

Don't think we didn't discuss it. If it were not out in the middle of nowhere, it could have been an option. Couldn't complain about the trees if I was growing them myself, you know...
