Roomies

The boys are officially roommates now as they have the same exact sleep schedule. (Benjamin naps in the guest room because Noah is still inconsistent with his naps.) It is fun to listen to them giggle themselves to sleep. Their favorite thing to do is to wake the other by laughing as well. Really, it is more of a high-pitched screech that one does until the other laughs. It might not be the way mom and dad would prefer to be waked up, but they seem to like it just fine. Noah will sometimes ask if Benjamin can nap with him. I gave in the first couple of times because I thought it was a sweet request. I set very firm rules that he was to stay in his bed and be very quiet so that Benjamin could rest (secretly hoping that he would get bored to sleep as well). I came downstairs and could hear Noah up running around. I then started to hear some of their stuffed animals making noises. I went back up preparing to reprimand Noah only to find him stretched out on his bed and Benjamin sitting in a crib full of toys with the biggest smile. Noah told me that Benjamin needed something to play with. Now how could I get mad at that? My other favorite story happened the other morning. I heard the boys awake but jumped in the shower before I went to get them out. When I came out I heard this conversation:
N - Benjamin, what does a sheep say?
B - BAAAA! (He learned this at the farmer last week.)
N - Good! Benjamin, what does a cow say?
B - BAAA!
N - No, Benjamin. A cow says, "Mooo." What does a duck say, Benjamin?
B - BAAA!
N - No. A duck doesn't say, "baa", a duck says "quack". Benjamin, what does a pig say?
B - BAAA!
It went on for some time and I was cursing myself for having no way to record the conversation right at that given moment. Noah never raised his voice, he was just talking so soft and politely - and that is not always the case. And I was so proud of him for trying to teach his little brother something. It was really cute. And now, I am going to start keeping the video camera in my room so I'll be prepared in the future.

And in case you are wondering where Benjamin has been sleeping for the last 16 months... I am ashamed to admit that once we realized their rooming together from the beginning was not going to work out, we did not get right to work on getting him his own room. He has been sleeping in the pack-n-play in the guest room. I know that sounds horrible and the only thing that lets me sleep at night in regards to that situation is that his future wife, Ella Grace, will be two in July and she has been in a pack-n-play her whole life as well. (When they grow up and realize what a king size bed is, they will think they have died and gone to heaven!)

On the room decorating front, the guest room furniture is now history. Once the room is completely cleared out, we will be moving the boys in to that room so I can start painting their space ship room. Once that is completed, we will make the guest room in to the new nursery and the baseball/office/storage room will become the new guest room. We have 17 weeks to complete these tasks. I would LOVE to have it done before July comes so we can just cruise that last month. Think it will happen? Me either...

If someone could tell me the benefit of a $400 crib vs. the $60 pack n play as a bed, I'd at least think about a crib. But really, what's the difference? Babies all over the world sleep on the ground. Ella has had no trouble going from the pack n play to the big girl bed. All of my babies will be using that thing! And I bet they turn out normal! :-)

Are you nuts?? I sent you an email telling you to get everything done by the end of May. I parked it on the couch June 1st and didn't move until Ella was born. But that's OK, don't take my advice...I'm sure the room conversions will be all done by the time Noah is in jr. high. :-)

Sleeping in the pack-n-play sometimes gave Grandma a "roommate" and that was fun. He'd stand up and really stare because I didn't have my glasses on when I'd first get up and he knew something was different...but, that Benjamin smile was soon there and all was cool! But, I'm soooo happy both boys are enjoying each other and can be in the same room. I figured Noah would be more accepting when Benjamin got old enough to play with.

Don't listen to Cammie ... it was wrong and you are a horrible mother for putting your son in a pack n play for the last 16 months.

NOT!
